Just the other day, this practice came to me. As my daughter was falling off to sleep, I was massaging her hand. I was gently pressing on the fingers, one by one, and the palm of her soft little hand. I was prompting her to notice the sensations that she was having, and focus her attention on each one of the spots I pressed. She enjoyed this lovely practice and it took me a while to realise that I was practicing with her. Mindful of the touch I was fully present with the warmth, softness and aliveness of her hand.

It is when we give to others that we truly give to ourselves. Sometimes unknowingly, not setting out to do so. We are caught by surprise by this precious gift that we have just presented ourselves with. When we are truly present with the other, we are truly present for our own life.
